Boberic Earns ITA Academic Award

Six Siena Women's Tennis and two men's tennis players were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. The women's program was also named an All-Academic Team.

Recent graduates Mitsuki Fukamachi and Ali Garrity, rising seniors Ivana Boberic and Rina Sakai, and rising juniors Natalie Weaver and Ann Phillips represented the women on the All-Academic Team.

For Fukamachi, Garrity, Weaver and Phillips, this is the second time the four have been named to the ITA All-Academic Team. Sakai earns the honor for the third time, receiving it all three years of her career.

The women's squad who boasted a 3.63 cumulative GPA, the highest of all Siena team's, was named an All-Academic Team. This is the third straight year the women have been named an All-Academic Team.

On the men's side, rising senior Peter Galante and rising sophomore Matt Bellino were recognized as All-Academic members. Galante earns the honor for the second straight season.

In order to earn ITA Scholar Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
